good for the bones

i'm in awe of the way scripture is living and active...always fitting, never fails.  today i'm mulling over Proverbs 3.  i've read it countless times over the years, but for some reason today it  seems new and fresh. years ago i memorized prov. 3:5, as many of you probably did as well, and it went something like this...

'trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.'

here it is in the amplified version:

'lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.  in all your ways know, recognize and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.'

i know its a little wordy....but i LOVE it!! for me, it wrings out the meaning, expressing fully the feeling and emotion in it.  sometimes i need that extra added umph.  and for today...the next 2 verses really hit home.

'be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn entirely away from evil. it shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones.'

another version says: '...it will be health to thy navel, marrow to thy bones'
in other words...good for your gut!

oh, that we would listen and obey! why do we forsake these precious promises of emotional and physical health!  i don't know about you, but my nerves can get awfully frazzled and frayed by the end of a day. and my body can feel weak and my bones brittle at times.  these verses feel like survival and life to me.   and all i have to do to receive these promises is to:
 1. not be a know it all
 2. acknowledge God as God, honor and worship him
 3. have nothing to do with evil. actually the Bible says to flee from it. as in, turn my back on it and run!
