what a friend...

i admit, sometimes when i sit down to have a quiet time alone with the Lord, i find myself at a loss.  a loss for words, at times a loss for where to read in scripture, or what devotional book to read.  sometimes i have a plan and all goes according to it. but other times, i feel stuck.  there are even days when that feeling of 'stuck' keeps me from getting away with Him.

as i thought about this today, i was reminded of friendships that have felt this way. there have been times when i have put off getting together with girlfriends because it just didn't seem like there was anything specific to talk about. no plan.  but i realize that in simply making...and keeping...a commitment to get together and hang out, amazing conversation transpires!  beautiful, relationship-deepening dialogue takes place.

and so it is with my Jesus!  truly my best friend.  the one and only person i can share EVERYTHING with.  my doubts and fears, my joys, my tears.  and there is no judgement.  there is no condemnation. only truth in correction, love in direction.  enjoyment, me of Him and...revelation of revelations...HE of ME!!!  i am SO grateful for a perfect friend that understands and DELIGHTS IN ME!!  do you know that?? HE DELIGHTS IN YOU!!

Zephanahiah 3:17 "The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delightin you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."

and so i take great delight in HIM!! and i am thankful for this 'friend that sticks closer than a brother' {proverbs 18:24} as, among other things,  he is the perfect example of the kind of friend i want to be.

'what a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear.  what a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer.  oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear.  all because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer.'
